Hanukkah by the Numbers
PROJECT N.O.A.H. Hanukkah 2009
Volunteers Made it Happen
- 9 volunteers from Hatikvah house packaged large food bags.
- 22 volunteers- children up through seniors - packaged food bags, and wrapped Hanukkah toys and clothes.
- 30 volunteers – adults and families - delivered large and facility food bags.
- 280 small Hanukkah bags were delivered to 41 senior’s facilities. These bags were delivered by individuals and parents with young children.
- 220 large food bags were delivered to 220 households of low income seniors and families, holocaust survivors, and shut-ins. These bags were delivered by individuals and parents with young and teenage children.
- Congregation Sinai’s Religious School and Yavneh Middle School students made over 100 Hanukkah cards for the food bags.
- 65 blankets, 7 women’s sweaters, and 18 scarves were lovingly made and donated by members of Knitzvah; and given to many appreciative seniors and children.
- 20 students from Hillel of Silicon Valley made 6 beautiful blankets.
- 13 seniors and 40 children made 13 tie blankets for JFS SV clients at Yavneh Middle School as part of their Generations program.
Embrace-A-Family
- Over 200 people in all received gifts Over 700 gifts were donated;

- Embrace-A-Family boards with wish lists on dreidels to be pulled by donors were placed in the Yavneh/JCC preschool lobby, Congregation Sinai, Temple Emanu-El, Congregation Shir Hadash, and at JFS SV.
- 171 individuals, families, chavurot and friendship groups donated baskets of kitchen items, clothes, towels, toys, and gift cards.
- $1800 in Gift Cards were donated.
Friends in the Community
- 30 children in the day care program at De Anza College received 45 toys.
- 8 children with special needs served by the San Andreas Regional Center received toys and clothes.
- 10 residents and 11 children celebrated Hanukkah at Atria Willow Glen; the children led a Hanukkah and Shabbat program.
- 20 residents and 23 children celebrated Hanukkah at Belmont Village of Sunnyvale; the children led a Hanukkah program and passed out gifts they made for the seniors.
Dreidels, Gelt, Candles, and Toys
- 400 dreidels and 500 bags of chocolate gelt and boxes of Hanukkah candles were donated by the Sisterhood at Temple Emanu-El.
- 4 cases of Hanukkah candles were donated by Shir Hadash.
- 180 presents were collected and wrapped by SVYAD, Jews Next Dor and JCC teens.
